San Diego Padres Daily Farm Report: August 11

Salt Lake Bees 4, Chihuahuas 3

Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas had the lead in the ninth inning, but the Bees plated two in the top of the frame to hand El Paso a home loss. … Dustin Harris had another nice game at the plate. He doubled, singled, drew a walk, and drove in a run. He also added the sixth stolen base of his 20-game tenure with El Paso. The 27-year-old has seen limited big league time in each of the last three seasons, including 11 games this year with the White Sox. He failed to stick, delivering a .576 OPS in 36 plate appearances. In 20 games with El Paso, he has a .326/.408/.558 slash-line. … Lefty JP Sears pitched very well in an abbreviated start. He allowed one run after former Chihuahuas teammate Pablo Reyes tripled for the only hit against him all night then came home on an RBI groundout. Sears struck out five, needing just 47 pitches in three innings. Sears’ ERA with El Paso is still over 8, but he posted a 4.68 ERA with the Padres. He is likely the next man up if they need another healthy pitcher capable of pitching multiple innings before Joe Musgrove is available. … David Morgan made another rehab appearance for El Paso, pitching a scoreless inning. Despite allowing a hit and a walk, he struck out the side to avoid further damage. His stuff looked good, as he ran his fastball up to 98.8 mph, but only seven of his 16 pitches were in the zone. The Padres have several weeks before they have make a decision about activating him from his rehab assignment. … Trade deadline acquisition Hunter Stratton pitched a scoreless inning. Much like Morgan, he allowed a hit, walked a batter, and struck out three Bees. Stratton’s fastball topped out at 97 mph. The former Pirate has pitched three scoreless innings since joining the Padres’ organization. San Diego sent Andrew Moore to Pittsburgh to complete the transaction. The 29-year-old has appeared in both the Atlanta and Pittsburgh bullpens this year, and logged big league time in each of the last three years. He hasn’t recorded big strikeout rates in the majors, but has a 24.3% rate in Triple-A over the last two seasons. He has one more option year remaining.

Roster Moves: Infielder Gage Workman was activated by El Paso prior to Tuesday’s game. To make room on the roster, the organization released right-hander Misael Tamarez. The organization signed Tamarez to a minor league deal last season after he was released by the Astros organization. Despite possessing an upper-90s fastball, the 26-year-old walked more (40) than he struck out (38). 

Missions 7, Frisco RoughRiders 4

Prospect Watch: The Missions didn’t homer Tuesday, but they did have 18 hits to outlast Frisco at Riders Field. … Albert Fabian had the first four-hit game of his professional career. The system veteran reached base in all five plate appearances with three singles, a double, and a walk. The 24-year-old hit 16 homers back in 2023, but he missed most of the 2024 and 2025 seasons with a gruesome leg injury. Fabian has been a steady performer this season; however, he has not flashed the same kind of power he did earlier in his professional career. His four-hit night raised his OPS to .702. He will be eligible for free agency once again this winter. … Romeo Sanabria matched Fabian with four hits of his own in the win. The left-handed hitter started at designated hitter and socked a pair of doubles to go with two singles. He also drove in a pair of runs. The 24-year-old had a brief stint in the PCL this season, notching a paltry .575 OPS in 21 games before departing. The Miami native didn’t play last week after being sent back to the Texas League. … While the offense clicked Tuesday, Ian Koenig put together one of his best outings of the season. The San Jose native fired seven shutout innings, allowing five hits. He walked just one batter while striking out four. The sterling outing helped Koenig set a new career-high with 108.2 innings pitched on the year. The 25-year-old has been a steady performer, but his lack of big-time stuff leads to a lot of hard contact with few strikeouts. He has a K/9 of 7.2 in addition to allowing 18 homers while working to a 4.47 ERA in 22 starts this year. 

Quad Cities Bandits 5, TinCaps 4

Prospect Watch: RF Alex McCoy 2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB (20); 1B Luke Cantwell 1-for-3, RBI; DH Robbie Lavey 0-for-3, BB, RBI; LHP Luis Gutierrez, 3 IP, H, BB, 4 K; RHP Kannon Kemp 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; RHP Will Varmette (L, 3-2) 0.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R (1 ER), BB

Prospect Watch: Despite having just three hits, Fort Wayne entered the bottom of the ninth with a two-run lead before reliever Will Varmette allowed a homer, made a throwing error on a bunt attempt, and capped off the implosion with a wild pitch that completed the walk-off win for Quad Cities. … Robbie Lavey made his professional debut for the TinCaps, going 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. The 20-year-old catcher was selected in the fourth round out of George Washington University. He is the first member of the draft class to be assigned to High-A to begin his career. … Alex McCoy had two of the club’s three hits Tuesday. He doubled and scored in the first inning and added an RBI single in the third. He also collected his 20th stolen base of the year. The 24-year-old out of Hofstra is off to a .259/.364/.519 start in August. … Lefty Luis Gutierrez made another rehab start, stretching out to three innings and 55 pitches. He allowed just one hit, one walk, and struck out four River Bandits. Gutierrez has made three starts for the TinCaps and will need to be activated from the 60-day this weekend. The 23-year-old has missed most of the season with a shoulder injury. … Righty Kannon Kemp took over for Gutierrez and was in line to get the win going into the ninth inning. He tossed five innings, allowing a pair of earned runs. He walked three and struck out two. The 21-year-old has struggled in a small sample this season with the TinCaps. While the 6.30 ERA isn’t great, the 1.70 WHIP and a 5.61 K/9 are much more concerning. Kemp has flashed velocity throughout his time in the system, but he’s tossed just 103 innings since being drafted in 2023. While hewill be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this winter, he is well removed from consideration. 

Roster Moves: As mentioned, Robbie Lavey was activated before Tuesday’s game. In addition, Dylan Grego was returned to the Summit City after struggling earlier this season. 

Storm 11, Inland Empire 66ers 10

Prospect Watch: The Storm overcame an early six-run deficit to earn the comeback win in front of 811 fans on a hot night in San Bernardino. … The new kids on the block helped carry Lake Elsinore to victory. Chris McHugh – the Padres’ 11th-round pick last month – had quite the start to his professional career, finishing a triple shy of the cycle on a three-hit night. McHugh spent the 2026 season with NC State, where he hit .320 and led the team with 50 RBI. He hasn’t shown a ton of in-game power, but he showed a solid ability to make contact in college and the organization felt they could coax more power out of him when they called his name. … Seventh-rounder Joe Trioly also connected on his first professional homer as part of a two-hit night. Tiroly played for Virginia last season after starting his college career at Rider University. He had a .984 OPS with 16 homers for the Cavaliers in 2026. … Qrey Lott had two hits, including his sixth homer of the season. He also drove in a pair of runs. The 21-year-old was just 4-for-23 in August coming into Tuesday’s action. The 6-foot-3 outfielder is listed as a slender 190 pounds, showing some intriguing projection in his frame and intriguing raw tools. The former undrafted free agent is hitting .278/.389/.408 this season. … Righty Jesus Castro had a rare clunker but was spared a loss thanks to the Storm comeback. Castro pitched just 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits, walking two, and striking out three. The poor outing increased his ERA to 3.96. 

Roster Move: Joe Trioly and Chris McHugh rounded out the Storm roster as two more members of the 2026 draft class will look to carry the Storm to a Cal League championship.
